Shaheed Bhai Surinder Singh ji Sodhi

Bhai Surinder Singh Sodhi was the bravest of soldiers of Khalsa Panth in 20th century, forever ready to lay down his life for Panth, always tyar bar tyar to punish any Panth-dokhi, guru-nindak and carry out justice for Shaheed singhs who were killed in illegal police custody or encounters.

Bhai sahib had darshan of Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa in 1980. He was with Misal Shaheeda Tarna Dal, Harian wela then, doing sangat of Baba Nihal Singh ji. His close friend, Bhai Manbir Singh chaheru, had joined Taksal in 1980 and Sodhi had gone to Tarna Dal, but soon he joined ranks of Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa and vowed to remain with him till his last breath. He was a Charhdi Kala Gursikh, jovial, helpful and always imbued in Naam Baani. He carried out ‘Chalisa’ in Parikarma of Sri Harimandir sahib and had an 8 hour long Nitnem. He went in Samadhi many times during those years, getting up after 3-4 days. A heavenly fragrance was always emanating from his body, as was the case with Sant ji too. Gursikhs who have been with him told me that he was the one loved most by Santji, for his Spiritual awastha, his dedication, his love. Every word of Santji was like God’s command for him. He had piercing eyes, capable of seeing inside the mind of next person. No traitor ever passed his glance. He was a Handsome Gursikh, and Santji called him ‘Babbu’ with love. Whole Jatha of Damdami Taksal loved him, respected him and listened to his orders. From 1980 to 14th april 1984, he remained a dedicated soldier of Khalsa Panth, punishing traitors of Khalsa Panth.

Bhai Surinder Singh ji Sodhi, The Brave heart was once given a special message by Santji to be delivered to a Singh in a nearby village. But there was police cordon around Sri Amritsar and no one could pass without being checked. Sodhi took one of the most extraordinary routes to that village, he took his favourite ‘’Bullet’’ motorcycle on the railway tracks and drove it on tracks to reach that village. Villagers around Amritsar who had seen this feat still remember the day Sodhi did this, For Santji.

He was the one who got inside Punjab legislative assembly and shot secretary of Punjab Government who had issued oppressive orders against Panthic Singhs. BJP MLA, Harbans laal Khanna, who had carried out a violent procession of Hindus in Amritsar, which broke Model of Sri Darbar sahib at Amritsar railway station, threw cigarettes in face of Guru Ram Daas ji’s photo and gave out slogans like ‘’ Kacchh Kara Kirpaan, ehnu bhejo Pakistan’’, Dukki tikki rehan nai deni, Sir te Pagri rehan nai deni’’, was punished by Bhai sahib ji in a week’s time, when he was sitting in his shop with his bodyguards. Other singh involved in this action was Bhai labh singh ji.

List of Bhai sahib’s courageous acts is very long, and I’ll share with you all in due time. Bhai sahib ji was the most trusted soldier of Santji and never went against his orders. Enemy of Sikhs, Bhajan laal who had committed atrocities on Sikhs and got Sikhs killed in panipat was on the Hit-list of Singhs. Sodhi was sent for this mission by Santji, but on a condition. He was to shoot Bhajan laal ‘only’ if he could make it back to Santji. Sodhi, guised as a Navy officer, reached his office, sat with him and had tea. There were policemen and commandoes all around Bhajan laal. Sodhi called Santji and said it’s my last Fateh. I’m going to finish the Dusht but I’m not coming back. Santji ordered him that very moment to abort the mission and return, as he was needed. Sodhi had to return that day, and this showed how much Love and affection they both had for each other. Santji used to say ‘’ he is my son, not only in this life but from ages’’.

Enemies within Sikhs, people like Longowal, badal were working against Santji. They comspired to get Santji and Sodhi killed. Assassins were paid Rs.50 lakhs for killing Santji and 25 lakhs to kill Surinder Singh Sodhi. Government agencies wanted Sodhi out at any cost. They knew how much important he was for Sant Jarnail Singh ji, how he was his right-hand man, his trouble-shooter. They planned to handicap Santji by killing Sodhi. There was a big fear among agencies, as they knew that Surinder Singh sodhi was trained in Anti-tank mines and Anti-tank missiles. In case of an operation by the Army, he would have proved a big hurdle in getting to Santji and Akaal Takhat. So Longowal, his secretary Gurcharan, and Agencies of government paid 25 lakh rupees to a known smuggler Surinder Shinda and his keep baljit kaur. On 14th april 1984, Baljit called Sodhi to a tea shop near parikarma on pretext of sharing her problem with him, as she had convinced him that she looked upon him as her brother and wanted him to rescue her from the custody of Shinda. As Sodhi came in tea shop and sat, she started talking. Shinda appeared and shot bullets in Bhai sahib’s chest, but he didn’t fell and tried taking out his revolver. Then both of them shot at Bhai Sahib from their revolvers. Bhai sahib took 12 bullets in his body and fell down. As he lay in pool of blood, the assassins ran away. News of Sodhi’s Shaheedi spread like a jungle fire, and Santji was deeply pained. His words were ‘Today my Right arm has been cut, I’ve lost my beloved son, my Tiger has been killed, but killers should remember, I’m still alive’’. A plate was hanged on the door of Guru Ramdas langar, on which Sodhi’s killers were promised to be punished in 24 hours. And Singhs did take revenge of Sodhi’s shaheedi in 24 hours, punishing all the people involved in Shaheedi of Bhai Surinder singh Sodhi.

Bhai sahib’s life is an example of spirit of Khalsa. In 18th century, it was Bhai Sukha Singh, who is still remembered for his brave and daring acts, for punishing panth-dokhis. Bhai Shaib was Sukha Singh of 20th century. He was a true soldier, A Sant, gurmukh, Abhyasi of Naam baani, believed in Panthic unity and ever ready to lay down his life for cause of panth. His name struck fear in hearts of enemies of Panth, and a wave of Charhdi kala in minds of gursikhs. He'll be an inspiration for Sikh youth for ages to come.

Khalsa panth will always remember ‘Tiger of Santji’ for his Supreme Sacrifice.

Baba Jugraaj Singh ji Shaheed

Baba Jugraj Singh ji alias Toofan Singh ji was born in 1972 in house of Baba Mohinder singh ji. Baba Jugraaj Singh was only brother of five sisters. His Father did sangat of Baba Gurbachan singh ji and Baba Kartar Singh ji Bhindranwale Mahapurakhs. In 1978, when he was just 6, he was present during Sikh- nirankari clash with his Father. That was the first day he had Darshan of Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. When he saw Shaheed Singhs, he asked his father about them. Baba Mohinder singh ji said ‘Son, they are Shaheeds of our Panth’. He asked why they have been killed. Babaji replied they went to stop Guru’s beadbi, and for Guru and Panth’s honour, they have laid down their lives. Young Jugraj Singh went to Santji and said ‘Sant ji, I also want to die like them, for my Guru and Panth’. Santji smiled back and said ‘Son, its all in Guru’s hands. When he wishes some one to perform the sewa, he takes it himself. Each and every one of us has our own time. He will bless you also with sewa and Shaheedi’’. And after this he joined Damdami Taksal and became a dedicated soldier of Khalsa Panth. In 1984, after operation Blue star, Jugraj Singh, at age of 12 was arrested by police and lodged in Nabha jail. But next year, when he was just 13, he along with his friends escaped from Prison and became a part of Sikh resistance movement. He joined the ranks of Bhai Avtar Singh Brahma (KLF) and took part in several actions. SSP of Batala, Gobind Ram, was the one who started the campaign to humiliate Sikh fighters and their families. He used to urinate on faces of Singhs and say ‘’ you drank Amrit of Gobind Singh, now drink Gobind Ram’s Amrit’’. He killed thousands of Sikhs in fake encounters and Sikh women were raped, tortured and humiliated on his orders in Police stations. He was the mind behind ‘operation shudhikaran’ in which Sikh women were to to be raped in thousands and humiliated. Babaji challenged him several times, but he never accepted the challenge and never came in front of Khalsa Tigers. Babaji then planned to kill this butcher in his very rat-hole. He arranged for explosives to be fixed under his chair in his office. As Gobind Ram came and sat, Babaji pressed the button and dusht was blown to pieces. His body parts flew up to the roof, out of windows and walls of his office were smeared in his paapi blood. And all this took place in headquarters of Punjab armed police in Phillaur (Punjab).

People started calling him ‘Baba’ out of respect. He never looted any one, never killed any innocent, and protected innocent Hindus and their families. In his area, no incident of loot, rape or dacoity ever took place. He had a 6 hour nitnem, which included 5 Baanis, Chandi di vaar jaaps, Gurmantar abhyaas. He was a son to mothers, brother to sisters and father to daughters of Punjab. It was with Guru kirpa that he undertook some of the most daring actions of Sikh movement.

On 7th of April 1990, babaji was having heavy fever. He planned to move to his sister’s house for some days for recuperation. Punjab police had announced a reward of 2.5 million rupees on his head, for which police cats were always roaming around Babaji, looking for a chance to get him in. One of the Cats entered his group and started giving his information to police, but Police, CRPF and Army was too afraid to face Baba Jugraj Singh in an open encounter. As Babaji reached his Sister’s house in Village maari buchhian, night fell and Babaji after taking some food went to sleep. IN the night, the police tout took Babaji’s gun on pretext of cleaning it. It was a Russia made AK-94. He loved it very much. He had other weapons too but this was his priced possession. When babaji slept, he took out the pin of the gun, making it useless. Next early morning, babaji did his nitnem and as he was having fever, went to bed again. Around 8 in the morning, tout said to Babaji that he would go to Sri hargobind pur and bring him some medicine. Babaji allowed him to go. As he went, he informed the waiting Police force that the Lion is sleeping and his gun has been rendered useless. Thousands of Armymen, Police force and CRPF encircled the village. It was a big ‘ghera’ and babaji was with just 3 Singhs. Other with him were Bhai Bakshish Singh, bhai Gurpreet singh and bhai laal singh. When villagers saw police, they informed sister of Babaji, who went and woke him up and told him whole thing. Babaji, after listening to whole thing got ready to leave. Some villagers said babaji, we’ll not let you go and die. We’ll defend you with all out might, but please don’t go. But he refused, as he didn’t want any innocent Sikh to die in crossfire and he knew ruthless Punjab police will burn whole village just to get one Jugraj Singh. As Babaji took up position, his gun didn’t fire. Babaji smiled and said Singho, today my best friend has failed me, death is imminent,, you all should leave. But Singhs refused to leave their general. Bhai Laal Singh gave him his AK-47, after which a fierce encounter started. Police and Army were using villagers as human shields to get closer to babaji’s morcha, which was outside his sister’s house. But Babaji kept hitting them. As encounter ensued, Bhai Bakhshish singh brought a tractor from nearby house and they all got on it. Some people say they wanted to flee, but that’s not true, there was no chance they could have fled the scene. They just wanted to get out of Village so that innocent Sikhs don’t die. They planned to take on enemy in open fields. In this fierce encounter, on one hand were Thousands of enemies and on other side, fighting for their faith were 4 Sons of Guru Gobind Singh ji. Bullets were raining like rain, and as the tractor came near, Singh got on it and started driving towards fields. Army knew that if they reached in the fields, it’ll be difficult to finish them, so they launched a massive offensive. Scores of enemies had been killed and whole area was screaming with noises of Police ambulances which were being used to ferry dead and injured soldiers. News had spread far and wide that Baba Jugraj Singh was in Police ‘Ghera’! People from villages started moving to break police cordon. As situation was getting worse, Army used Rocket launchers to destroy the tractor. Tractor got stuck and singhs came down. They took up their positions at that site, which was in mid of Village and Fields. Babaji wanted all other singhs to leave, but no one was willing to leave their General. At last, Bhai Gurpreet Singh and Bhai Laal singh moved in different direction and escaped as all the attention of Army was on Babaji. Bhai Bakhshish singh refused to leave. After a 4 hour encounter, Babaji, unwell and injured, got hit by a volley of Bullets fired by enemies which hit him all over his body. Bhai Bakhshish singh also got Shaheedi that day, with Baba Jugraaj Singh ji, who took 28 bullets in his body. After Babaji got Shaheed, police and Armymen using villagers as Shields came near his body and confirmed that he was dead. News of babaji’s shaheedi spread far and wide, people were grief struck. They were not able to believe that Baba Jugraaj Singh had got Shaheed. Most sad were Hindus of Area, who cried and didn’t cook food in their houses that day, as they had lost their ‘’saviour’’ (as they called Babaji).
Next day Thousands of people reached police station of Sri Hargobind pur to get babaji’s body, which police had to give from fear of backlash.

On 18th of April 1990, Bhog ceremony was organised in native village of Babaji by his Family and Damdami Taksal. Baba Thakur singh ji reached there with his jatha. It was biggest bhog ceremony Punjab ever witnessed in its whole history of movement from 84-94. There was a gathering of 400,000 people despite police restrictions and 50 bags of money were filled by Sangat’s sewa. But Baba Mohinder singh ji refused to take even a penny for his Son’s sacrifice. His words were’’ My Son was born for Panth, he died for panth. He belonged to panth, I’m just his worldly father, he was son of Guru Gobind Singh ji, and I don’t want to insult his sacrifice by taking money over his Shaheedi. This is Panth’s money, it shall be used for Panth, and therefore I hand it over to Baba Thakur Singh ji, so that Sons and daughters of Panth can be given justice and freedom, so that those who are in jails can get freedom, those mothers who have lost their sons can be looked after, and children who have lost their fathers can be brought up’’. Salute to the father and the son.
This was a short note in memory of beloved Baba Jugraaj Singh ji alias Toofan Singh ji, who at the young age of 18 attained supreme shaheedi for Khalsa Panth. He’ll be forever alive in our hearts and sacrifice of brave Jujharoo singhs like Babaji will never be wasted. The Dream they had in their eyes has passed on in the eyes of new generation. Today people boasting and calling themselves Khalistanis have forgotten the sacrifice of those brave shaheeds, they just use their names to cash in on them and show-off themselves as Panthic, but no one is working anywhere to fulfil their dream. How many remembered Baba Jugraaj Singh ji on his Shahheedi? They can be counted on fingertips. Babaji;s father died two years ago. Only his sisters commemorate his Shaheedi with support of Some Panthic organisations. Isn’t it our Duty, the Youth of Khalsa Panth, to commemorate Shaheedis of those brave generals and warriors of Khalsa Panth, or are we also just good for t-shirts, posters, slogans in names of Shaheeds??

We have to wake up Khalsa ji and honour the Shaheeds of Panth.

Baba Thaara Singh ji Shaheed

Damdami Taksal is the inheritor of True Khalsa spirit of Sewa-Simran-Sacrifice. It was a religious university run by Baba Deep Singh ji and Bhai Mani Singh ji, whose military wing was known as Jatha Shaheeda and later as Misal Shaheedan. This was Taksal of Sant-Sipahis, but after 1764,when Baba Gurbaksh Singh ji divided it in two parts, one Jatha was to preach Gurbaani and conduct Amrit Sanchar , while Military wing was to fight for Panth whenever need arose. From this Jatha of Sant-Sipahis came General, Sants and Sipahis such as Bhai Taru Singh ji, Nawab Kapoor Singh ji, Baba Naina Singh ji, Baba Phoola Singh ji , Bhai Sant Singh ji and millions of others great souls.

Sant Kartar Singh ji, 13th Jathedar of Taksal met an accident in 1977, and refused to get his hair cut for operation due to which he left his body. After him Sant Jarnail Singh ji was appointed Jathedar of Damdami Taksal by Baba Thakur Singh,Baba Thaara Singh ji and other Singhs of Taksal. Santji had the mission of shaping Sikh panth’s destiny and reviving the Jatha Shaheeda of Baba Deep Singh ji Shaheed.

It was at this time Santji left for Parchar in villages, cities of Punjab and rest of India. He appointed Jathedar Baba Thaara Singh ji for sewa of Gurudwara Gurdarshan Parkash(Headquarters of Taksal). Baba Thaara Singh ji had come in Taksal during Baba Gurbachan Singh ji’s time and afterwards he continued sewa with Baba Kartar Singh ji. He was incharge to look after Sewa, Santhya and other administrative duties at Taksal. Babaji along with Baba Thakur Singh ji was one of the senior most Singhs of Taksal who had come to Mehta chowk with Sant Kartar Singh ji. He did all the sewa with utmost devotion as Hukam of Guru Gobind Singh ji. Singhs used to call him Jathedar of Budda Dal with love during his time. Singhs of all Jathebandis had great respect for him due to his self-less sewa and high spiritual jeevan. He was also guide of warrior group of Taksal, which Sant Kartar Singh was creating under Sant Jarnail Singh ji, including Singhs like Baba Manochahal, Bhai Usmaan Singh ji, Bhai Dalbir Singh Abhyaasi and others. These very Singhs in future were to become great Shaheeds of Panth.

During Santji’s Bombay, Haryana and Delhi tour in 81-82, Babaji was doing Sewa at Mehta chowk. When Santji was arrested by Punjab police in 82, he appointed Baba Thaara Singh ji as incharge of Sewa at taksal. After he returned after 28 days, Santji started Sikhi Parchar with more determination and Bir-ras. Government was worried about Santji’s intentions, so it tried its best to stop Santji. But as it tried, Parchar grew stronger. There were attempts at Santji;s life, Pothis of Guru Granth Sahib ji, gutka Sahibs and other baani pothis were burnt by police in chando kala in Haryana, which deeply hurt Santji. He started giving a new shape to parchar, turning it into movement for Sikh rights and freedom.

It was at this time Government took the extreme step and one day arrested some Singhs of taksal. During their hearing in court, Bhai Amrik Singh ji and Baba Thara Singh ji were sent by Santji to take care of Singhs and the case. As these Gurmukhs reached court complex, they too were arrested without any charges. When Santji heard about Bhai Sahib’s and babaji’s arrest, he was deeply pained. Santji were unwell that day and doctors had put them on glucose. In spite of being unwell, Sant Jarnail Singh ji reached with his Jatha at Akaal takhat Sahib on 18th July 1982 and did Ardas at feet of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. Santji declared Dharam yudh morcha that day whose aim was ‘’ not just to free Bhai Amrik Singh ji and Baba Thaara Singh ji but whole Sikh panth from shackles of Slavery’’! He did this Ardas also at Akaal Takhat sahib and vowed to continue the morcha till Khalsa Panth emerged victorious, till Fateh wasn’t achieved.

Morcha continued for many months and government, due to pressure of Panth dropped fake charges against Bhai Sahib and Babaji, and freed them from jail. But Santji was determined to take the morcha to its final mission, Freedom of Khalsa Panth. As the parchar grew and Sikh youth started taking amrit in thousands, there was a Sikh revival movement in Punjab under command of Sant Jarnail Sinhg ji Khalsa and Damdami Taksal. 33 Sikh Jathebandis supported Santji in this mission. As people said in 19th century, ‘’there is nothing as dangerous as a united Sikh nation’’! Indian government too feared the day Sikhs would smash its imperialist and fascist set-up in Punjab. Preparations to crush Sikh movement were started by Delhi and here in Amritsar, Santji too started preparing to defend the Dharam yudh morcha and Akaal takhat.

Defense positions were established in and outside Parkarma of Harimandir sahib. Important positions were set-up at Langar hall roof, Bunga Ramgarhia , water tank and on Complex entrance from Langar. These were to be the first resistance posts of Defenders. Baba Thaara Singh ji was given command of all these posts. When the Indian Army attacked Darbar sahib complex on morning of 4th june 1984, around 45 Singhs defending these 4 positions under Baba Thaara Singh ji gave a tough resistance and repulsed numerous attacks. Singhs held on to their defenses and forced invading army to retreat, until they brought in artillery guns and Tanks to destroy jhujharoo positions. It was on night of 4th june, that continuous bombing of jhujharoo positions by Guns and Tanks resulted in Shaheediya of many Singhs and all the morchas which were at an high altitude were destroyed. Baba Thaara Singh ji was on Langar roof with 12 Singhs and had LMGs and other guns. But they were no match to artillery bombs and Tanks. This position too was demolished and many Singh attained Shaheedi. Baba Thaara Singh ji’s body was pierced by sharpnels of bombs. Still he continued firing from his LMG, putting to death scores of enemies. These Singhs were fighting continuous from last 12 hours and were on the first defence line. When Singhs saw that Baba Thaara Singh ji was injured, they lifted him and planned to take him to Akaal Takhat, to Santji. But Babaji refused to be taken to Akaal Takhat saying,’ what will Jarnail Singh say? That bapu left the morcha and came to me?’’ he wished to be taken to the morcha at entrance of parkarma, near Dukh Bhanjani beri. Singhs took Babaji there, and his wounds were bandaged with help of kamarkasa and hazooriyas. Despite being wounded, Babaji continued to defend the eastern entrance of Darbar Sahib, from where Tanks were to be brought in. Whole night of 5th June, he held on to his position and kept fighting ,with other great Singhs like Bhai Jageer Singh, Bhai Ajaib Singh Mahakaal and Bhai Rasal Singh ji by his side. It was due to bravery of these Singhs that Tanks didn’t enter on night of 5th June. But Singhs had no re-inforcements, no medical help, nothing to eat, no one to come to their rescue. It was a fight to finish. Babaji had a wireless conversation with Santji on 5th June Amrit vela and said his last Fateh to Santji. Santji’s eyes got wet with love and affection after hearing last words of Baba Thaara Singh ji, who along with Baba Thakur Singh ji had been a father-figure to Santji in taksal. As Santji said his final fateh to jathedar of Budda dal, Singhs gave out jaikaaras at Akaal takhat. Till now Indian army had launched a massive offensive to destroy the position of Baba Thaara Singh ji. As Singhs came under heavy gunfire, numerous bullets pierced Babaji’s chest, stomach and head. Baba Thaara Singh ji attained supreme Shaheedi at the feet of Guru Arjan Dev ji, near Dukh Bhanjani beri on Amrit Vela of 5th June. He was First Jathedar of Khalsa Fauj to attain Shaheedi in Operation Bluestar.

During his conversation with Santji on morning of 5th June, Babaji had said,’Santji, don’t forget you have done Ardas to free Khalsa Panth from Slavery. And being spiritual descendant of Baba Deep Singh ji, you have to fulfil this Ardas, for honour of Taksal and Panth’. Santji replied in positive and promised to Babaji that Morcha will continue till Fateh, no matter what happens.

And I believe, with blood of Brahmgianis like Baba Thaara Singh ji and bachans of Baba Thakur Singh ji, Dharam Yudh morcha still continues.

Sri Akaal ji Sahai.

The Pain of my Heart-2

I got introduced to Sikh struggle when I was 7. The day was 6th January 1989. We used to live in Ambala as my Father worked there. At morning 5 am, a Parbhaat feri passed in front of our house. I woke up and asked my mother what was the reason for Parbhaat feri today, as it was not any Gurpurab today? She told me that today Satwant Singh and Kehar singh were being hanged in Delhi. I curiously asked why they were being hanged. She told me whole thing. I listened to their story of valour from my mother.

We lived in first floor and on ground floor lived a Sikh army man’s family. His name was Bahadur Singh. Whenever his wife’s brothers used to visit, they used to do Naam Abhyaas in closed doors. One of them, Bhai Bhajan Singh ji was very high awastha Gurmukh. One day I and his nephew peeked in his room when he was doing Nitnem. We say him 3 feet above ground, and as we saw this, we both jumped and came running to our mothers and told them what we saw. Aunty, Bahadaur Singh’s wife, told us not to tell this thing to anyone as his brothers were of high awastha and didn’t want anyone to know about this. I still rememeber, the day was 18th April 1990, I saw aunty sitting at her door and crying. I came to my mother and told her about this. My mother went to her and asked why she was crying? She broke down and told my mother about Shaheedi of her youngest brother, Gurjeet Singh. He was studying in B.A and had left home few months ago, had joined KLF and started operations. Today he was killed in an encounter with security forces. He was in Baba Jugraaj Singh ji’s Jatha and police was looking for him after Babaji’s Shaheedi on 8th April. That was first day I saw and felt the pain of a Shaheed Singh’s family. After few months, Bhai Bhajan Singh ji was picked up by Punjab Police and tortured badly. He was made to sit on heaters, hung upside down and beaten up, given electric shocks but Bhai sahib didn’t reveal anything about other singhs. Afterwards he too was killed and his body was given to his family, so that other people will see his fate and desist from joining Movement. Aunty returned from Antim Sanskaar of her second brother and revealed that Bhai Bhajan Singh ji too was a Jhujharoo of Babbar Khalsa. Her Father and only living brother Darshan singh were also lifted and tortured badly. Her brother was rendered impotent as Police had tried to tear him in two parts but left after his private parts were damaged, while laughing that now he’ll not be able to produce any more Kharkoos! Bapuji too was given electric shocks and was left handicapped.

This was destruction of a Sikh family I saw at young age with my eyes. I saw very closely how Sikhs were sacrificing their lives for Guru and Panth that time, facing every torture, every suffering with determination. How families were getting destroyed and how mothers were sacrificing their sons. But things changed after 1992. And today we stand at a point in our history where we are direction-less, aim-less, leader-less, have lost the vision and courage to do the things which our elders did 25 years ago.

When I look back at the blood soaked history of those ten years, when every true Sikh family of Punjab had to bear the brunt of Imperialist brutality, my heart cries out loud. Not only mine, but every Sikh’s heart who has met and seen the tears of those mothers and sisters and daughters who lost their Sons and brothers and Fathers feels the pain. Have we been able to do anything for their honour? Have we been able to do anything for their families? What have we done for widows of Nov.84 riots? Their children have grown up and in absence of any employment or education have taken to drugs and anti-social activities.

We are good in highlighting the problems but don’t know how to solve them. Our enemy knew this thing, so he started created problems for us, and we really failed to solve them. So their number has increased to such a level that we have become a Panth of Problems. And unable to carry on the weight of problems, we have started breaking down. We are breaking up in different parts, getting weaker and smaller day by day. And there is no hope that we’ll unite in coming some time and sit down together and solve our problems we have today, instead our enemy will keep on throwing issues at us and we’ll keep on dancing as puppets in his hands and fighting within Panth. Who’ll help us? No one I’ll say! What a pity it is, This is the Panth which saved others from tyrants and restored their honour and today it has grown so weak that it has to hold banners and candles and beg for Justice! This is the Panth which demolished established empires and created its own empire in Northern part of Indian sub-continent, and today this panth is begging from others for its rights and freedom and justice. Remember one thing, take out as many candle vigils you want, hold as many rallies you want, hold as many marches you want, NO one will give you Justice and Khalistan. Guru Gobind Singh ji gave you sword to fight for your rights and you held candle in your hands, Shame! Sant ji aroused that warrior spirit in us again, where is that gone? Truth is, you will have to shed your blood, face tortures, die inhuman deaths, only then will you achieve freedom and until you are afraid of dying and tortures and government agents spying on you, you cannot do anything. Leave everything else, just think about this, our military struggle ended 15 years ago, what a shame it is that in last 15 years, we haven’t been able to unite and create a Political group which will fight politically for our rights, our freedom and Justice. We have parties like Dal Khalsa, SAD (bittu), SAD (Maan) and numerous federations, all these haven’t been able to join hands and start a political struggle for freedom in Punjab. In western countries, I have seen these parties and people shout slogans of Khalistan and collect funds from people in name of Khalistan and Shaheeds, but when it comes to India and Punjab, there is no one doing something significant on ground. All are good in giving out statements, but truth is, Sikhs of Punjab don’t trust these people. They have seen what these groups and Dals did in last 26 years. No one thinks about Panth, no one is ready to die for Panth, no one is ready to shed blood for Panth, how will we achieve something? And then there are groups, who are good at fighting just with Sikhs over an issue like Santji’s Shaheedi! Why don’t these groups start a political or military struggle, a mass movement, a revolution in Punjab to achieve Santji’s mission and fulfil dreams of Shaheeds? Are they good for just collecting money and creating issues in names of Santji and Shaheeds? It so sad that these people who call Santji a Sant-sipahi and Great Sikh call his Taksal a ‘Bahmanvaadi Jatha’, same Taksal which was virtually finished in 84 holocaust, same Taksal which bore the brunt of Government’s and its agents’ brutality! When question of money and Khalistan comes, for these people Bhindranwale Sant is a Sant, but when it comes to following Maryada or baani or Dasam baani, Then he is a bahmanvaadi! Isn’t this sheer hypocrisy?

When I see in this darkness around, there is no ray of hope or light! But as people say, ‘as the night darkens, have faith that daylight is near’! This night is darkening, no one is there whom I can trust, and there is no one whom I can look upon. But then a voice resounds in my ears, ‘Sant ji is in Charhdi Kala,he’s here on this planet, he’ll not go without freeing Panth, he’ll not go until he fulfills his ardas of 18th july 1982 which he did at Akaal takhat Sahib at feet of Guru Hargobind Sahib, Have faith’! This sound gives me hope, gives me courage to live and move on, to continue my mission, to look towards these dark skies for that ray of light, which will bring Sun back and there will be daylight.

I know My Akaal Purakh loves his Panth, Guru Gobind Singh ji and Guru Granth Sahib ji love their Panth and this is the reason , I have this Faith that their blessed and chosen general, Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa is in Charhdi kala and waiting for their Hukam to lead this Panth again.

Akaal Ji Sahai!

The Pain of my Heart - 1

26 years have passed, when Sri Akaal Takhat sahib was demolished, walls of Sri Harimandir sahib were pierced with 360 bullets, 220 Saroops of Guru Granth Sahib ji were burnt, 7000 innocent Sikh pilgrims were massacred in Darbar Sahib complex. Operation Woodrose unleashed in rural Punjab took lives of 15,000 Amritdhari sikh youth between age 15-35 so that they are not able to become part of any planned revolution. 75,000 Sikhs armed with Guns, swords, sticks and other weapons moved to defend Darbar sahib and stand with Sant Jarnail singh ji and Sikh warriors defending Akaal Takhat. They were fired upon by Army at various places by Helicopter gunships, Tanks and firing squads. Eyewitness accounts place Sikh causalities at around 20,000. All in all, 42000 Sikhs died in these 5 days of 4-8 June 1984. This was 4th Sikh holocaust.

Today after 26 years when we look back at the happenings of that time, we see Panth still standing at same place where it was 26 years back. So much happened afterwards, Khalistan was declared on 26th Jan 1986 by Panj Piaras, freedom fighter groups like KLF, KCF and BTF were formed to fight for Independence. Political leaders like Maan were given authority and power by Sikhs to fight a political battle. Fake encounters, extra-judicial killings, rapes, massacres, tortures and kidnappings of Sikh youth became a daily feature in Punjab. After 2, 50,000 Shaheeds and 26 long years, we still stand where we were before Sant ji appeared on scene.

Just stop for a while and look back where we failed? And do the reasons responsible for our failure still exist?

I would say yes. We failed because we did not unite at the time of attack, we failed because we didn’t unite during the movement and we failed because we didn’t abide by bachans of the Mahapurakh who was authorised to lead The Panth by Our General Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa.

Today, the problems, the divisions, the controversies, the bickerings in the Panth have taken a dangerous shape. There is nothing such as love, humility, respect or Ekta left. This is not the Panth Guru Gobind Singh ji dreamt of. This is not the Panth millions of Shaheeds gave their life for. This is not the Panth which was to create Kingdom of Peace (Halemi raaj) on this planet. Why have we become so divided and narrow minded? Why have we lost respect for each other? Why have we lost respect for Mahapurakhs of Panth who dedicated their whole lives for sewa and Charhdi kala of Panth?

There are issues of Dasam Baani, Raagmala, Amrit, Nitnem, Ardas, Kakkars, Takhats and political upmanship. Who created these issues in us? Who took these issues to the level of bloody fights in Panth? Who has brought us in such a position that there is no chance of any rapprochement and Unity? Panth stands badly bruised and hurt today, and then we say we’ll fulfil the dreams of Shaheeds! Will we fight for our Shaheeds this way? Will we create Kingdom of Peace like this? We, the peace less people will never be able to do anything until we learn from our past mistakes and unite. Learn something from Israel. In Second World War, 6 million Jews were butchered in gas chambers by Hitler. In 1946, after the war was over, Jews from around the world united with one Mission-‘’People less land for landless people’’. With their visionary and dedicated leadership, they created a home for themselves in world and are still surviving in most dangerous of conditions.
Where do we stand? Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa united whole Panth under One Nishan. There were forces which tried to stop him, finish him, bring him down but he, with his single-minded dedication continued to serve Panth and always tried his best to avert blood bath between Sikhs on petty issues. People called him coward, Agent of Congress, fool and so much, but he didn’t speak with anger or hatred to any fellow Sikh who was part of Panthic struggle. He tried his best to maintain unity in Panth and always was successful in doing so. That’s why he’s called Greatest Sikh and Sant-Sipahi.

But just look at what the people, who claim to follow him and claim to believe in his ideology are doing? Is there any unity in Panth today? There are people and groups who have made Sant ji as their icon, just for bread-butter, but simply refuse to follow his ideals or principles. There are people who’ll put up his pictures, banners and posters, but will refuse to believe in Dasam Baani or Puratan Panthic maryada, calling it Bahmanvaad! There are groups and Jathas, who have made Taksal bashing a primary source of their existence. They exist on hatred towards Taksal of Sant Jarnail Singh ji, whom they claim to believe in and don’t miss a chance to use his name. These groups haven’t done ANYTHING for Panth or achieved anything for Panth in last 26 years, but don’t miss a chance to label Taksali Singhs as cowards and RSS agents. They are ready to fight for putting label of Shaheed with Sant ji, but not ready to do something so that dream of Sant ji or Shaheed Singhs is fulfilled. Their Khalistan struggle is all centred on propaganda against Singhs and Groups who believe in Sant ji’s Charhdi kala. They don’t feel sad or bad while labelling their own brothers as RSS agents, cowards, cats and so much; just because we believe in Sant ji’s Charhdi kala, but they themselves haven’t done anything for Panth in last 26 years. I met a person who said you are cowards and agents because you claim Sant ji is in Charhdi kala. I said brother, we, those who believe in his charhdi kala, number at around 50,000 over the world. Leave us 50,000 people, why don’t rest of 24.9 million Sikhs do anything? It’s ok if we are cowards or agents, but what have those, who claim Sant ji to be Shaheed, done for Panth? Why haven’t you people started a military or political struggle in Punjab to fulfil dreams of Shaheed Singhs? Why these so many groups and Jathas and Dals have been unable to create a leader like Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa in last 26 years, who’ll unite the Panth and take it on Path of freedom? I said brother, stop fighting over this issue, why don’t we just unite and do something for Panth? Why don’t we join hands and do something that will take us on Path of Freedom and Charhdi kala? If Sant ji is your idol, he’s mine too, let’s unite under Nishan Sahib, do parchar for Sikhi, educate youth about Santji’s ideology and Shaheeds of Panth. I ask one thing, is this debate so important as to push your brothers away from you and make them your enemies? Why dont you do what you feel is good for Panth and let us do what we think is good. After all, it was Sant Jarnail Singh ji himself, who told us to believe in Bachans of Baba Thakur Singh ji. What crime are we doing if we are obeying orders of our General?
There is so much to write, and I will write, because some things need to be cleared. Some people say, One man can not do anything, so stop waiting for Him. Read sikh history, Baba Banda Singh was just one man, who demolished Mughal empire. Sant Jarnail Singh was just One man, who single-handedly took on brutal government of India and changed the course of History. Those blessed souls, who have Guru’s Naam and baani in their hearts, who have Guru with them are capable of doing anything and everything. Always One Man leads and others follow him. Then only wars are won, empires are created. And it’s a bitter truth that after 6 June 1984, till today, millions were and are ready to walk behind, but the one blessed soul who’ll lead is Gupt. Hundreds tried to take his place, claiming to be Leaders of Panth, but no one was or is like that One Sant Jarnail Singh ji. If you know some one,who you think is capable of taking Sant ji's place, has the charisma and will power and love for Guru and Panth like him, please do let me know!
